Strategic facilitation for nonprofit leaders, boards, and small business teams in Greenville, SC and beyond.
OriGen combines Ori, from the Yoruba word for head or destiny, with Gen, for genius and creation. Together they reflect the wisdom and creativity every good session needs.
I help groups think clearly, hear every voice, and reach decisions together.
Most leadership teams have the answers somewhere in the room. The challenge is pulling them out, hearing from everyone, and landing on a decision the whole group will stand behind.
I design and lead sessions and retreats that do exactly that. I stay neutral on the outcome, keep the conversation focused, and make sure quieter voices are part of the decision. You leave with a clear plan your team owns.
Three ways to bring your leadership team together, depending on the question in front of you.
(half day)
When your team is stuck on one big question, a few focused hours can move it forward.
Includes:
Good fit for: a key decision, a new opportunity, or a disagreement that keeps resurfacing.
(full day or 1.5 days)
Step away from the daily work and set direction together using the full FRESH Method.
Includes:
Good fit for: annual planning, a leadership transition, or setting a 1- to 3-year direction.
(3 to 4 sessions over 2 to 3 months)
The same FRESH process spread across shorter sessions, giving your team time to think and gather input.
Includes:
Good fit for: larger groups, organizations gathering community or staff input, or teams with busy schedules.

Hi, I’m Melissa, the founder of OriGen Strategies.
I’ve spent my career helping groups learn, think, and work through hard questions together. Before OriGen, I designed and coordinated multi-session programs for adult learners, supporting more than 100 participants across several cohorts. I worked alongside facilitators to shape curriculum, set learning goals, and plan how each session should flow.
I’ve also coordinated professional development workshops and multi-day learning events for educators, handling everything from curriculum planning to keeping a full room on schedule.
I hold a master’s degree in English from Arizona State University and teach first-year composition at the college level. In the classroom, I rely on discussion and hands-on activities instead of lecture, and I adjust my approach so every student can take part. That same instinct shapes how I run a session: structured enough to get somewhere, open enough that every voice is heard.
My role is to guide the process, not to tell you what to decide. You leave with decisions your team made together and a written summary you can share.
If you’re ready to bring your leadership team together around the decisions that matter, let’s plan your session.
Start with clarity.
Good decisions start with the right conversation.
Most teams are not short on ideas. They are short on a structured way to work through them together. The FRESH Method is my signature facilitation process. It gives your leaders a clear path from overwhelm to decisions everyone can stand behind.
Name the question on the table and agree on what success looks like.
Pressure-test priorities and cut what does not matter.
Make decisions and agree on owners and timelines.
Agree on the check-ins your team will use to keep the plan moving.
Give your team a clear direction to act on with confidence.
Every session is built around your team's own thinking. I guide the process, keep the conversation on track, and make sure every voice is heard. You leave with decisions you made together and a written summary you own.
We talk through the decision in front of your team and choose the right format.
I gather input through interviews and a short survey and design the agenda.
I lead the conversation so your leaders can focus on the thinking.
You receive a written summary of decisions, owners, and timelines to share with your team.
How long does a session take?
A FRESH Focus is a half day. A FRESH Retreat runs a full day or 1.5 days. A FRESH Plan spans 3 to 4 sessions over 2 to 3 months. Scheduling typically happens within two to three weeks of our first call.
Can the session be virtual?
Yes. Sessions can be held in person or online. The process and the written summary are the same either way, though I recommend in-person retreats when possible.
Do you write our plan for us?
No. I facilitate the conversation so your leaders make the decisions. You leave with a written summary or retreat report that your team owns and can use right away.
What happens after the session?
You receive a written summary with decisions, owners, and timelines. The FRESH Plan includes a final session to review progress and adjust. You can also add a follow-up session 60 to 90 days later.
Who is this a good fit for?
Founders, executive directors, boards, and leadership teams who want a clear decision or direction and a structured way to get their whole group there. If your team is early in the conversation, a FRESH Focus is a great place to start.
Do you work with organizations outside of Greenville, SC?
Yes. I work with organizations anywhere, in person or online. Travel expenses apply for in-person sessions outside the Greenville area.
Tell me the decision in front of your team, and we will figure out the right format together.
